About 5bp

First attempts to present my pictures to others, I started with a specially programmed homepage (I didn’t think of 5bp at that time). However, since the number of pictures grew, editing and maintaining the homepage was too time-consuming at some point. In 2013 I then looked (and found) a way to present the pictures with less effort and in a slightly more professional look and found Zenfolio. Then a name and logo had to be found: When I looked through my pictures, I came across a series of pictures of a bird in flight, which were unfortunately only very small and poorly exposed. That’s when I came up with the idea… With a little image editing I created my logo with the 5 birds…

... and so the name Five-Birds Photography (5bp) was born.

Since the end of 2016, I have also started to make selected pictures available to some so-called stock agencies. I hope to cover a small part of my costs.

About me

I was born in the summer of 1979 in the beautiful Olpe, Sauerland and grew up in the small and beautiful village of Rhode. After graduating from high school, I went to Wuppertal to study safety engineering, which I successfully completed in 2006. For professional reasons I moved away from my home in North Rhine-Westphalia to beautiful Franconia, to Erlangen. During my studies I started to get interested in photography and started with a small Canon IXUS. Back then I was particularly fascinated by the possibilities of digital photography.

After completing my studies, I bought my first SLR camera, a Canon EOS 400D, and made my first attempts. I was particularly taken with the photography of animals and so the first professional lens (Canon 100-400 L IS USM) soon found its way to me. My equipment kept growing.

On the subject of image editing

The subject of post-processing of images is always hotly debated. Some photographers believe that a picture must be taken so perfectly that it does not need to be reworked. My point of view is a little different here. Of course, photos that require very little post-processing are great, but for me photography does not just mean taking the picture itself, but also editing the pictures to get the most out of a picture. Since I primarily photograph for myself, there are very few limits, because I have to like the end result.
